Excursion to Mount Evans and Echo Lake for an Alpine Hike
We will travel by bus up the steep road to
Mount Evans. All 14 miles of the road from the entrance
station to the Mount Evans summit parking area (14,130 ft) are
paved. From there, we can hike the last 130 feet (about 1/4
mile walk) to the top at 14,264 feet. After you have made this
climb, you can tell all your friends: "I climbed a 14,000 foot
mountain in Colorado!" We will also walk to Echo Lake for some
beautiful alpine scenery. Bring your camera and sunscreen.
Cost: $75 (includes lunch) |

Excursion to Georgetown for Historic Train and Gold Mine Tour
Located 45 miles east of Keystone is the
Georgetown Loop Railroad. An engineering marvel originally
built in 1884, the railroad fulfilled the hopes of Georgetown
citizens to become a prosperous settlement connected to Denver
and points further east. In connecting Silver Plume and
Georgetown, towns over 2 miles apart, the tracks scaled an
elevation of 640 feet over mountainous terrain, requiring
trestles, cuts, fills, loops, and curves totaling 4.5 miles.
Today the Loop is a popular tourist attraction and an uncommon
way to see the Clear Creek Valley. Along the route we will
stop for a guided tour of an historic silver mine.
Cost: $75 (includes lunch) |
Excursion
to VailA bus
will take you into the charming mountain village of Vail for
an afternoon of sightseeing, shopping and dining. The Vail
Valley was first explored by gold and silver miners in the
late 19th century. Vail was named after state highway
engineer, Charlie Vail. The ski mountain was discovered in the
mid 1950's and Vail eventually grew to become the largest ski
area in North America. The Vail mountain gondola provides
beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys and
is open in the summer for your enjoyment.
