• High-altitude Advice
  Colorado is home to some of the most beautiful mountains in the country and we hope you enjoy your visit. The average altitude at Keystone is over 9,000 ft (2,700 m), a significant change for those used to lower elevations. You may notice shortness of breath and an increased heart rate, especially when being physically active. The best ways to minimize the effects of altitude are to drink lots of water and to avoid overexertion. Excess consumption of alcohol exacerbates the effects of high altitude.
  
  Ultraviolet rays from the sun are intense at high altitude. It is recommended that you use an effective sunblock (protection factor of 15 or more) when out of doors, and wear sunglasses with UV protection, even on cloudy or overcast days.

• ATMs
  There are two Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in Keystone. ATMs are also located at most banks, in shopping malls and often in convenience stores and gas stations. Most are linked to international banking networks such as the Cirrus and Plus systems (these companies will have their logo stamped on the back of your bank card), providing an convenient way of withdrawing U.S. dollars. Be sure to check your daily withdrawal limit with your home bank before you depart, and be prepared to pay withdrawal fees of $1 to $3.  The ATMs in the Keystone Resort are located in the Keystone Lodge on the 2nd floor (by the Lakeside Deli) and in River Run (by the Condominium Front Desk).  Please note that exchanging foreign currency is not possible in Keystone.

• Business Hours
  Banks are generally open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12 pm. Shops generally are open every day.  Banks will be closed on July 4.

  If you're heading out into the backcountry, make sure you're prepared. Phone the Colorado Avalanche Information Center hotline that's sponsored by the Summit County Rescue Group. They'll give you the current local weather.

• Tipping
  It is customary to tip 15% to restaurant wait-staff and to bartenders. If you have a large party, usually a group of 8 or more, gratuities may automatically be included in the bill. Ask if you are unsure. Of course, this is discretionary, and you should leave as much as you feel comfortable.

  Area Code is 970 for all of Summit County, including Keystone.

• Electricity
  The United States, and all of North America, uses 110 - 120V, 60 cycles, as opposed to many other countries, including those in Europe, that use 220 - 240V, 50 cycles. Voltage converters are not always readily available so it is recommended you pick one up in your home country before you leave the U.S.

  Mountain Time is 7 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time; 8 am in Colorado is 3 pm in London.

• Weather Statistics
  Colorado's mountains and valleys have a mild and arid climate. Keystone averages 300 inches of snow falls annually, and the sun shines 300 days of the year on this alpine village. 

  Springtime in May and June produces the most rainfall.  Summer brings warm and dry days with cool nights, resulting in mountainsides and valleys full of wildflowers. Starting in late September, there's always a chance for light snow. The Colorado Rocky Mountains tend to have constantly changing weather, so be prepared for anything!
